Going to the Dollar Store is one of my favorite things to do in my adult life, but it can also be one of the best things for a kid’s life too. The simple summer things we used to love as kids, our kids will love too if we take the tablets and devices for a couple of hours and expose them to some of our favorite childhood experiences as well. Remember your first time building a sand castle, drawing things on the sidewalk with chalk or those good ol’ bubble days? It was really the simple things.

Don’t slip up and let the man selling bubbles on the street for $5 beat you to the punch when you can easily pick up these 10 things at your next visit to the dollar store.

Bubbles:

Bubbles so simple, yet they bring the biggest joys to kids no matter the age. It’s a simple thing to keep your children occupied all while you get to hear their contagious laughs of joy. You can do all of this for $1. Make sure to add this to your dollar store shopping list.

Chalk:

Something about chalk makes a child feel like they are legal graffiti. It’s the only time they get to tag sidewalks as much as they want without any repercussions. It’s also a great way to get them to practice writing their names. They can also get creative and draw a hopscotch that multiple people can enjoy and play with.

Sand Bucket and Shovel:

A sand bucket and shovel will keep your kids distracted at the beach especially when you want them to take a break from the water. Kids love to dig up sand and this allows them to be creative with whatever they want to build. The best part is you can get the while bucket and shovel set for just $1.

Balls:

Adding something as simple as a ball to an outdoor day can really make your child’s game. Whether you are kicking a soccer ball back and forth or playing catch with a frisbee, why pay more at a department store when you can just add this to your list.

Frisbee:

This item is a childhood favorite especially in summer. You can play in a grassy area, on the beach or at the park. Throwing a frisbee will help with eye and hand coordination. It will also make other kids want to join in which will allow your child to meet new friends.

Water Balloons/Water Guns:

This is the most fun for any water day. The good ol’ filling up the balloons in the kitchen and tying them without making them pop. The adrenaline of approaching your target and soaking them. Memories that will last forever for just a dollar.

Puzzles:

Puzzles are the perfect way for kids to spend their time and perfect for both indoor or outdoor days. It’s also something you can work on together as a family for bonding time. Only $1.

Classic Board Games:

Most dollar stores offer classic board games such as checkers. This is a perfect item to add to your shopping list next time you’re in the store. You can also bring it along for a picnic or beach day.

Jump Rope:

Every child should own a jump rope. Why over pay for a jump rope when you can just pay $1 for it? Your child can learn how to jump rope all while getting exercise in. On top of that they can get creative with games like double-dutch.

Coloring Bucks and Crayons:

Coloring books and crayons are always good for multiple occasions. In addition to just bringing them along for fun activities such as a picnic day, it’s also a perfect fun distraction for kids to focus on while at a restaurant or plane ride.
